Just over four million households that live in extreme poverty and are more economically vulnerable will continue to receive the economic contribution called "solidarity income" during May 2022 and bimonthly until November, according to the calendar of payments announced by the Government of Colombia.

Solidarity Income is an economic program created by the Government of Colombia during the coronavirus pandemic —which began in 2020— to support families or households in extreme poverty and vulnerability to mitigate the negative impacts of the emergency on that population. social of covid-19.

This economic contribution had initially been approved for three months during the pandemic, but it has been extended in short periods until the approval of the Social Investment Law that regulated it to be executed until December 2022, according to the Department of Social Prosperity of Colombia. .

Who are the beneficiaries of Solidarity Income?

More than 4 million households have been beneficiaries of the payments as of March 2022 and will continue to be so in May and subsequent months.

The Social Investment Law allowed the benefits to be extended from 3 to just over 4 million households as of March 2022.

Is it necessary to register to receive financial contributions?

No. Recipients do not need to enroll.

How are those who receive the subsidy chosen?

For this year, the Sisbén group information and the number of members of each household will be taken into account.

The Sisbén is a state survey to find out the socioeconomic conditions of families and classifies them by "their ability to generate income and quality of life," according to the National Planning Department (DPN) of Colombia.

Sisbén IV —which is an updated version of the old Sisbén— changed from measuring the living conditions of households to their ability to generate income.

Before there was a numerical score, now it is given with letters, like this:

  • Group A is classified as extreme poverty groups

  • Group B have moderate poverty

  • Group C have the classification of "vulnerability"

  • Group D is neither poor nor vulnerable

So, returning, the Solidarity Income will be given to just over 4 million families that are classified in categories A, B and C.

How much money do Solidarity Income beneficiaries receive?

For the months of March, April and May, the minimum amount that families were going to receive was going to be 160,000 pesos per month, at the current exchange rate, about US$40, but since March 2022 there has been an increase in the amount to 190,000. pesos.

Payments are made every two months.

As of June 2022, payments will be made for "differential incentive", according to Susana Correa, director of the Department of Social Prosperity, which will depend on the level of Sisbén IV and the number of people in each household.

  • A household with a member in group A will receive 400,000 pesos every two months.

How are payments received?

Beneficiaries receive payments through their bank account (identified with their identity number) and they will be notified of the payment via text message.

Those who do not have a bank account will receive the money through payment operators established for that purpose or through a digital wallet for that purpose.

How do I know if I am a Solidarity Income beneficiary?

Entering and registering on the website of the Department of Social Prosperity with your identity card number, you will be able to know your Sisbén IV classification and consult information on remittances and beneficiaries.
