With the "Alster for everyone" campaign, the Hamburg police are now taking action on the Alster.

To protect everyone, the police will also expand their checks on the Alster in the future.

Hamburg – Especially since the outbreak of the corona pandemic, the Hamburg Alster has developed into a popular meeting place for amateur athletes and the city’s party crowd.

More canoes, stand-up paddleboards and rubber boats, as well as high-spirited bridge jumpers ensure a lot of traffic on the Alster and the surrounding canals.

"Alster for everyone": New campaign for more safety on the Alster

This unprecedented overcrowding of the Alster poses a major challenge for residents, the police and, in particular, nature.

As a result, on the one hand, the complaints to the water police increased and, on the other hand, the need for emergency services on the water increased, who, among other things, conducted information talks, especially on the topics of consideration, driving rules and alcohol consumption.

In the course of the campaign, posters with short appeals were designed, information cards were created with a brief overview of some important rules, and a homepage was created on which all important information about the Alster is available in one place.

Hamburg's Interior Senator Andy Grote explained: With the Alster and its canals, the Active City has a unique, highly attractive water sports area in which club and recreational athletes from beginners to professionals find the best conditions.

If we want everyone to continue to be able to use the Alster, then everyone has to abide by a few basic rules.

With the campaign that has now started, we want to promote mutual consideration, but also clearly remind people of the applicable rules so that everyone can travel safely on the Alster.

The head of Hamburg's water protection police, Olaf Frankowski, also explained at the start of the new campaign: "Similar to road traffic, there are rules of conduct and traffic on the water that serve to ensure safety, ensure good cooperation and protect the plant and animal life that we value so much Ensuring wildlife on, on and in the Alster.
