A worker was killed and nine others were injured in an explosion followed by a fire at an oil refinery in South Korea yesterday evening.
And Reuters news agency quoted the local fire department as saying that an explosion occurred during the workers’ testing of the processing unit of the “Onsan” refinery of the “S-Oil Corp” company, after periodic maintenance was carried out, and a fire broke out as a result, killing one worker and wounding nine others.
It is noteworthy that S-Oil is the third largest oil refining company in South Korea, with a capacity of 669,000 barrels per day, and is located about 380 km southeast of the capital, Seoul.
S-Oil's management said in a notification to the regulators that it has halted production at Process Unit No. 2 and related operations at the Onsan refinery due to the fire.
