Bavaria had threatened to block the 9-euro ticket from the 2022 relief package.

Funding needs to be improved.

Now Söder wants to agree.

Munich – 9 euro ticket yes or no?

On Friday (May 20), the Federal Council will vote on the saver ticket from the 2022 relief package.

Bavaria's Transport Minister Christian Bernreiter (CSU) made a clear statement earlier this week: "If the federal government believes that it can be applauded on the back of the federal states for a three-month consolation patch and that others should pay the bill, then it was hugely mistaken .” Bernreiter told the German Press Agency that he did not see how Bavaria could agree to the law in the Bundesrat under the current conditions.

The reason is the financing.

Shortly before the vote, however, Markus Söder (CSU) announced via Twitter that Bavaria would agree to the law.

“The 9-euro ticket can come.

Bavaria will agree in the Bundesrat after the federal government has improved the financial support for the municipalities.

Söder did not initially write what the financial improvement would look like.

However, he added: “One thing is clear: it is important to have permanently attractive offers so that people can switch to public transport.

The ticket must not be a flash in the pan.” It is the last political hurdle for the 9-euro monthly tickets for buses and trains in summer: the Federal Council can clear the way on Friday for the special campaign to start on June 1st.

The chamber of states makes the final decision on funding.

According to the law passed by the Bundestag the evening before, the federal government is to provide, among other things, 2.5 billion euros to compensate for loss of income.

There had been several calls from the federal states for more money in general for local passenger transport.

If the Federal Council agrees, sales will start this Monday.

In June, July and August, the special tickets are intended to enable travel in local and regional transport throughout Germany – for 9 euros a month each, which is much cheaper than normal monthly tickets.

The special thing about the ticket is that it is valid throughout Germany.

This means that if you buy a 9-euro ticket from the MVV in Munich, you can use it on all regional and private railways as well as on public transport from other transport associations at no additional cost.

Only long-distance traffic (ICE, IC and EC) is excluded from the ticket.

Bernd Rosenbusch, head of the Munich Transport and Tariff Association, is completely enthusiastic about the "banger offer", as he calls it.

In Nuremberg, too, people are happy about the new ticket and have been working meticulously on the implementation for weeks.

Details on the cheap ticket have already been published on the website of the Verkehrsverbund Großraum Nürnberg (VGN).
