Wartaweil - For three weeks, the children's climate camp in the nature conservation and youth center in Wartaweil offers lots of activities for young climate protectors.

They prepare mosquito cream, bake bread and host a clothes swap party.

At the beginning of July, the children's climate camp starts in the nature conservation and youth center in Wartaweil.

After last year's great success, it will again take place as a day program for school classes from the fourth to the eighth grade.

Teachers can choose between eight topics and take part in the project days with their classes from July 4th to 27th.

Clothes swap party, mindfulness course and cream making

Whether at the municipal council meeting in the "energy-saving village", playing "plastic seal memory", creating a "neck cream", the mindfulness course for children and young people, baking bread or at the clothes swap party: Schoolchildren around Lake Ammersee can take part in this year's children's climate camp learn a lot about climate protection.

Six speakers have worked out eight programmes.

The application for the coveted project days has begun.

Enjoy nature without harming it

“Last year we hosted 24 school classes with a total of 550 students within two weeks.

This year we want to build on this success and have extended the period to three weeks and added two new topics," says Birgit Geurden, the director of the seminar house.

For example, the topic “Your free space is their living space” is new.

"On the project day, the children and young people should learn how to really enjoy nature without harming nature," says Axel Schreiner, educational director of the center.

Use living and economic space mindfully

The pandemic has changed the way we spend our free time and the importance that nature has.

Fortunately, the need to go out into nature has increased significantly among people of all ages, because it offers a counterpoint to the virtual world and is simply good for us.

However, nature is often only consumed, the visitors do not behave accordingly and impair the functionality of the ecosystems and the agricultural areas of the farmers.

Noise, rubbish and dog excrement are becoming a threat to both wild and farm animals.

Conflicts between those seeking relaxation, the locals and the people working there are becoming more and more frequent.

Social networks fuel the flow of visitors and lead to overtourism in the well-known leisure locations and local recreation areas around the metropolitan areas.

The course addresses the question of whether one is part of nature oneself and how to behave carefully and carefully in living and economic spaces.

Instead of prohibitions, knowledge, empathy and skills are conveyed and dialogue and understanding of the needs of nature and fellow human beings are encouraged.

What does clothing have to do with climate?

This program can already be booked by teachers.

Registration closes on June 2nd.

Further information is available on the website of the BN center.

Other topics of the children's climate camp are: Energy transition child's play!/Water and bread superfood and heat wave/What does clothing have to do with climate?/The forest and the climate/Without plastic!/Biodiversity-What is that?/Free yourself from abundance!

What is behind the individual topics can also be found on the website.

If you have any questions or special requests, the teachers are welcome to contact the team at the BN Education Center.

The children's climate camp has been held in the nature conservation and youth center since 2010.

Until 2019, the four-day event was the same every year: two days of workshops on a specific climate-related topic, one day of a children's climate conference and one day of a final event with the parents of the approximately 50 schoolchildren.

The children and young people camped on the grounds of the center and largely took over the organization and food preparation themselves.

The first politician at the Children's Climate Camp 2010 to answer the children's questions and demands was Dr.

Markus Söder as Bavarian Environment Minister.
