France: business creations fell in April, according to INSEE

Business creations in France fell by 2.5% in April, after having increased by 1.7% in March, according to figures published Friday by INSEE, which underlines that this reduction has a "

" impact on micro-businesses .

significantly declined

” by 7.8% over the last 12 months, a trend which has accelerated over the last three months (-11.2%).

All categories combined over the last three months, the number of business creations fell by 3% compared to the same period in 2021. Last year, they had reached a historic record in France, approaching one million.

By sector in April, business creations fell the most in transport and warehousing (-13.7%), “ even

more strongly

” than the previous month (-3.8%).

The construction (-4.6%) and business support (-2.0%) sectors also fell "

significantly

", notes INSEE, as did accommodation and catering (-7.3% ).

Only business start-ups in the industry (+3.5%) and household services (+0.5%) sectors continued to increase in April.
