In June 2022, the G7 summit will be held at Schloss Elmau.
The heads of state of the most important industrial countries come together.
But who is that exactly?
Elmau ‒ At the end of June, one of the major political events will take place in Bavaria: the 2022 G7 summit in Elmau.
The meeting of seven industrialized countries is under the presidency of Germany this year, which is why it will be held in the Federal Republic.
But who are these countries or participants of the G7 (Group of Seven) that will meet between June 26th and 28th?

Participants of the G7 Summit 2022: Who is in Elmau?
‒ First meeting in France in 1975
On this weekend in June, politicians from the seven most important industrial countries, among others, will find their way to Elmau in Upper Bavaria.
The very first meeting in 1975 in France dates back to then German Chancellor Helmut Schmidt and French President Valéry Giscard d`Estaing.
Their intention was to hold a world economic summit at which the heads of state and government of France, Germany, Japan, Great Britain, the USA and Italy could talk about the oil and financial crisis then prevailing.
At that time there were only six participants, in 1976 Canada was added to the circle.
The G6 summit eventually became a G7 summit.
In 1998 Russia was also allowed to join.
However, the G8 (Group of Eight) only met in this composition until 2013. Because of Russia's violation of Ukraine's sovereignty, the G7 decided in 2014 that they did not want to take part in the next meeting under the presidency of the largest country in the world.
The summit therefore took place in Brussels instead of Sochi.
In 2015, the G7 met for the first time at Schloss Elmau.
The participants should meet there again in 2022.

In view of the high level of political prominence, there is a security concept as to how the heads of state and government can best be protected.
In any case, one thing is certain: many measures will be necessary to ensure that the G7 summit in Elmau can take place again without a hitch.
