A doctor at the Wolfson Hospital emergency room in Holon was attacked last night (Thursday) by a patient who beat him and broke his glasses.

A complaint was filed with the police.

This, hours after the strike of doctors and medical staff across the country following the incidents of violence against them.

At Wolfson Hospital they have strongly condemned criminal violence against the treating staff and stressed that cases of violence will be dealt with very severely before the law enforcement authorities.

Dr. Anat Engel, director general of the Wolfson Medical Center, said that the issue of violence at the national level should be addressed.

"We use all the tools at our disposal to make the staff who work day and night with dedication and professionalism for the patients feel protected in their work," she said.

"Enforcement and punishment must be exhausted against all those who use violence."

Yesterday protest rallies were held at the entrances to medical centers and hospitals across the country.

The warning strike by Israeli doctors lasted for 24 hours and was announced by the Israel Medical Association.

The strike included general, geriatric, psychiatric and rehabilitative hospitals, and all community and outpatient clinics.

Hours before, the staff of the Galilee Hospital in Nahariya was attacked by the family of a patient who was killed in a car accident on Route 70. The family of the young man who was killed tried to enter the emergency room, and confronted the security guards, who were forced to use tear gas.

Another violent incident occurred earlier this week at Hadassah Hospital on Mount Scopus in Jerusalem.

This, when the family members of a patient at the medical center began to riot and beat staff members upon learning of his death.

Hadassah reported that dozens of family members stormed the intensive care unit and began raging and rioting, breaking doors and windows in the unit, damaging the nurses' stations, computers and equipment - and beating staff members.
