A mountain hiker (63) died in a crash on Psengberg in the Jachenau municipality on Thursday afternoon.

The police are investigating the circumstances of the accident.

– According to a police report, a tragic mountain accident occurred on Thursday afternoon when a 63-year-old mountain hiker died around 3:15 p.m. on the Psengberg (1155 meters) in the Jachenau municipality.

A group of four vacationers from the district of Fürth had rented a guesthouse in Jachenau in the morning and made their way towards Psengberg around noon.

Wanderer crashes on Psengberg and dies

According to the police, a 63-year-old from this group slipped on the descent, could no longer hold himself up and then fell about 20 meters over steep, partly rocky terrain.

He then came to rest on a flat spot.

His companions who hurried to him found him lifeless there, provided first aid and made an emergency call.

The notified rescue workers of the helicopter crew Christoph Murnau and the mountain rescue service Lenggries arrived at the scene of the accident after a short time, but could only determine death.

Police are investigating the circumstances of the mountain accident on Psengberg

Police officers from the Alpine task force recorded the mountain accident and rescued the casualty in close cooperation with the Lenggries mountain rescue service and with the support of a police helicopter.

"The exact circumstances of the fall are still unclear," said the police.

They are the subject of the police investigation.

The companions of the deceased were intensively cared for by the crisis intervention team (KIT) of the mountain rescue service.
