After a remarkable climb up the stairs, Julia Roberts presented the Chopard Trophy to two emerging actors during an enchanted evening.

It was one of the events that will mark the 75th edition of the Cannes Film Festival: Julia Roberts presented the Chopard trophy to two young emerging actors.

Total black Dior look, impeccable bun, the Hollywood star appeared last night, Thursday May 19, on the Carlton beach in an almost religious calm.

We expected a general hysteria on the part of festival-goers and photographers but Miss Roberts naturally imposes a distance.

It was therefore peacefully that she descended the stairs leading to the reception to offer her legendary smile to the cameras, surrounded by Xavier Dolan - who directed her in the Chopard campaign - and Caroline Scheufele, co-president and director art from Chopard.

After the quickly dispatched photo session, she took her place among the guests under a magnificent tent where candles and bouquets of pink orchids created a warm and refined atmosphere.

On the menu that evening: lobster salad, turbot, celery and virgin leaf and traou mad with vanilla and ice cream.

In a joyful atmosphere and under the attentive gaze of the guests including the president of this 75th edition Vincent Lindon, Noomi Rapace, Saoirse Ronan, Ladj Li, Benjamin Biolay, Joséphine Japy, Lolita Chammah, Damien Bonnard, Finnegan Olfield or even Pascal Elbé, Julia Roberts took the microphone to say a few words before presenting the Chopard trophy to Sheila Atim and Jack Lowden.

Every planetary star having its requirements, the Oscar-winning actress asked all the spectators to put their mobile phones on the table.

Few photos, few videos.

Once the astonishment passed, the public was quickly won over by Pretty Woman who, after confiding her nervousness, gave a speech that was both funny and authentic: "Being here to announce two actors in the making - and these are already so gifted -, it

is a kick in the ass to tell us "keep going", we need you, we want you and that's great.

I love actors, it's such a difficult job, I'm your godmother now, that doesn't mean you can call me… because you don't need me!”.

Touched by this award, the spectacular Sheila Atim (

The Underground Railroad, Meurtrie, Doctor Strange in the Multivese of Madness

) and the talented Jack Lowden (

Dunkirk, Caliber, Mary Stuart, Queen of Scotland, Slow Horses

) said they were honored to have Julia Roberts as their godmother.

Before them, Marion Cotillard, Léa Seydoux, Diane Kruger, Florence Pugh received this prize created more than twenty years ago.

“Chopard loves cinema, and the Trophy represents our Maison's ongoing commitment to ensuring the development of new talent,” said Caroline Scheufele.

With this award, we draw the attention of the entire film industry and the public to an actor or actress destined to play in the films of tomorrow.

Like every year, I was particularly moved during the awards ceremony to see their talent recognized and the pride on the faces of these brilliant actors”.

The awards granted, the singer Jeanne Cherhal settled at the piano to close the evening, her refrains taken up in chorus by Rossy de Palma, Benjamin Biolay, Pierre Lescure or Joanna Kulig.
