Leaning over a large white sheet somewhere between Montmartre and Saint-Germain-des-Prés, René Goscinny and Jean-Jacques Sempé passionately discuss the creation of a small character who could live hectic adventures, and thus bear witness to childhood. of its two creators... This laughing and mischievous little boy is, of course, Petit Nicolas.
Between camaraderie, arguments, fights, games, nonsense, and punishments galore, Nicolas lived a childhood full of joys and learning.
“The origin of the project goes back seven years,
says Aymar du Châtenet, boss of the company Imav editions, publisher of the adventures of Petit Nicolas.
The producer of Mediawan Aton Soumache came to find Anne Goscinny to offer her this crazy idea: to tell in a cartoon the whole process of creation of Petit Nicolas, by staging Goscinny and Sempé.
At first, it must be said that we were a little skeptical and reserved.
But by detailing the scenario, the comings and goings between the creative duo and the stories of Petit Nicolas, we understood the stakes of such a film.

As the story progresses, Little Nicolas slips into the workshop of its creators, and challenges them with humor.
Sempé and Goscinny will tell him about their meeting, their friendship, but also their journeys, their secrets and their childhood.
“It is also the story of a friendship of course,
sums up Aymar du Châtenet.
The screenplay was entrusted to Anne Goscinny and Michel Fessler.
The animation meanwhile fell to Amandine Fredon and Benjamin Massoubre who had already worked with Joann Sfar.
The result is a creative UFO, as poetic as it is joyful.
I understand that Thierry Frémaux and his teams were seduced by the film.
It is very unusual and very unexpected...
”
The strongest thing is that Alain Chabat and Laurent Laffitte have agreed to slip into the shoes of the two main characters.
Chabat, who happily adapted Asterix and Obelix: mission Cleopatra becomes René Goscinny, while Laffitte becomes the emblematic designer Jean-Jacques Sempé.
While the theatrical release of the film has been set for October 12, at the Cannes Film Festival, it is expected that a hundred boys and girls, disguised as Little Nicolas or Marie-Edwige, will climb the steps of the Palais des Festivals to attend screening of the film this Friday.
Proof if it were needed that the Cannes Film Festival has kept its child's soul...
