Put on your hiking boots: that is the motto in the Tölzer Land these days at the latest. A reasonable tour also includes a hearty stop - and sometimes a bed. Who opens when? And where is there still a free place to sleep?

Put on your hiking boots: that is the motto in the Tölzer Land these days at the latest.

A reasonable tour also includes a hearty stop - and sometimes a bed.

Who opens when?

And where is there still a free place to sleep?

Bad Tölz-Wolfratshausen –

It was already popular before Corona, but it has literally experienced a boom in the past two years of lockdown and travel restrictions: mountain sports.

The innkeepers have prepared themselves for the visit of numerous hikers, mountaineers and mountain bikers.

Josef Klenner, President of the German Alpine Association (DAV), is convinced: "We will experience a rush in the mountains." He expects a large influx, especially in the hotspots of the Bavarian Alps.

One of these hotspots is undoubtedly the Tegernseer Hütte between Roßstein and Buchstein.

It woke up from hibernation last weekend.

If you want to spend the night here in one of the two newly renovated dormitories, you have to be quick.

"We already have a lot of registrations," reports Michl Ludwig, leaseholder of the DAV hut.

In May, June and July there are still a few remaining places.

Tegernseer Hütte: 3G still applies to overnight stays

While the restrictions caused by the pandemic are no longer an issue in many other huts, you can only spend the night here this year on presentation of 3G proof.

In addition, the landlord would like to leave a space between the different groups of visitors.

"It's damn tight for us," Ludwig justifies the precautionary measures.

He wants to protect his employees and himself from corona infection.

"If two people drop out, it's no longer feasible."

A novelty is the season for Mathias Petter and Miriam Däubler.

They are the new hosts of the Tölzer Hütte am Schafreuter (we reported).

The trained carpenter and restaurant specialist and the cook have been open since last Saturday.

"So far only for gastro guests.

Overnight stays are only possible from this weekend,” says Petter, who comes from Kappl in Paznaun.

A total of 73 overnight accommodations are available.

With "respect and great joy" the couple starts their first hut season at 1835 meters.

The trained housekeeper Däubler has come up with something special for the menu.

"In addition to the classics, we also have dishes for alternative diets." Vegans and people who eat gluten-free don't miss out.

"An all-rounder is my chili con quinoa."

The season started on the Binsalm on May 4th.

"Coming up works very well," says landlady Michaela Larcher, looking at the high location of her alp in the Karwendel.

Above all, the demand for overnight stays is high.

"Now I hope that the day-to-day business will get going again if the weather is good," she says.

The surrounding huts, such as the Lamsenjochhütte above the Eng, are still closed and will probably reopen in June.

The same applies to the Falkenhütte.

Lenggrieser Hütte: No days off in the summer months

After only a month's rest, Michaela Durach opened the Lenggrieser Hütte on the Seekar on May 1st.

Especially in the past week there was “a lot going on”.

They attribute this to the sunny and warm weather.

“There are always a lot of people coming.” She is also satisfied with the booking situation for overnight stays.

What is new is that this year there will be no more days off at the hut until November.

"Tuesdays used to be closed." If you want to go to the hut, you should currently avoid the Grasleitensteig.

Since last Monday it is expected to be closed for two weeks due to felling work.

The Tutzinger Hütte at the foot of the Benediktenwand is also ready for the summer.

Landlord Thomas Jauernig opened his doors at the end of April.

“Things are going great on weekends and when the weather is good,” is his initial assessment.

A glance at the calendar also gives him satisfaction.

"As far as overnight stays are concerned, we have almost no more space for Saturdays until August." Both his team and his guests are very happy that normalcy has now returned.

"Without testing and data collection, that's a huge relief," says Jauering.

The Kirchsteinhütte in Längental attracts hikers and families all year round.

In addition to Kaiserschmarrn and Co., landlady Anna Bauer also has 40 places to stay on offer.

“When the weather is good, we always have a lot of day visitors.” Overnight stays, on the other hand, would start out a bit sluggishly.

Bayernhütte open 365 days a year

The Bayern hut on the Brauneck is open 365 days a year.

While the other Brauneck huts were closed when the cable car was overhauled, there was food, sleeping accommodation and even a whirlpool for mountaineers here.

"Our customers really appreciate that," says innkeeper Michael Geyer.

Currently, guests would stay at the Bayern-Hütte for two nights on average.

He is also registering more and more bookings for company events.

"Fortunately, business with conferences and the like is now starting again for us."

Marianne Obermüller also noticed an upswing in company bookings on the alpine pastures.

As reported, the landlady of the Stie-Alm is also taking over the Quenger Alm on the Brauneck this season.

The Stie-Alm has been running again since May 13th, next Saturday she will also open the doors of the Quenger Alm.

"I'm really looking forward to the alpine summer and also to finally being able to look into the faces of the guests again." The end of the mask requirement is also a relief for her employees.

"Working with a mask in small huts in the heat was really exhausting," she says.
