The former "Miriam" youth hostel in Benediktbeuern is being completely converted into a daycare center.

The nuns continue to run the business.

Benediktbeuern – The municipality of Benediktbeuern will buy the former youth hostel “Miriam” from the Don Bosco sisters.

Mayor Toni Ortlieb announced this on Thursday.

Negotiations have been completed and the purchase agreement will be signed later this month.

"It is agreed not to disclose the price," said Ortlieb when asked by our newspaper.

The community and the religious community have been talking about the future of the property for some time.

After the nuns had run the youth hostel and daycare center "Don Bosco" for many years, the hostel was closed in autumn 2021 (we reported).

On the one hand, the religious community lacked the financial means for modernization and, on the other hand, the necessary sisters for the operation.

However, the day-care center (Kita) will remain.

Even after the hostel was closed, the municipality was able to use additional rooms for more space for the crèche.

The community expressed interest in purchasing the property.

"Since the approval of the General Council in Rome for the sale of the property was only given at the beginning of April, the process dragged on for a very long time," reports Ortlieb.

The municipality now wants to use the entire building for the daycare center.

The house is being renovated for this.

According to Ortlieb, the planning for this has already started, and a start is planned for this year.

However, the children would have to be cared for in containers during this time.

The day-care center will remain in the hands of the Don Bosco Sisters.

You will live in the building as a tenant.

"The sisters are happy about it and look forward to being responsible for the day care center in the future," says Ortlieb.

He is also very satisfied: "With the purchase of the property, we will be able to meet the long-term demand for childcare places in the village."
