The Peitinger building yard is bursting at the seams.

Because the hall capacity is no longer sufficient to accommodate the vehicle fleet, the location is now to be expanded accordingly.

For this purpose, the municipality takes a quarter of a million euros in hand.

Further investments are already on the horizon.

Peiting – At the municipal council meeting, Franz Kees, the building authority employee, presented the possible options for the expansion.

The first consideration was to build four prefabricated large-capacity garages and to provide them with a gabled roof, which should be built by the building yard employees.

The problem: The solution should be as flexible as possible so that the garages can be moved to a new location at a later date if necessary.

With the nine by 3.5 meter prefabricated garages, however, relocation would only be possible with a great deal of effort, said Kees.

This not only requires large equipment, but also a special transport that requires approval, which makes things expensive.

The new building serves to accommodate the vehicle fleet

The building authority therefore started looking for alternatives and finally ended up with a lightweight hall.

According to Kees, there were several advantages for them.

In this way, the hall can also be easily equipped afterwards to meet individual needs, it can be erected quickly without tying up depot staff and a change of location can be carried out easily.

In addition, environmentally friendly and recyclable materials could be used during construction, the hall is very resistant to environmental influences due to its construction and also has advantages in terms of fire protection, explained the building official.

And there is hardly any difference between the two variants when it comes to costs.

For the prefabricated garages, without including the labor costs of the building yard workers for the gable roof, it would come to around 225,000 euros,

The new building is to be used on the one hand to house construction depot vehicles.

The bottom line is that their number has hardly increased.

The problem is rather that new vehicles are significantly longer than their predecessors, explains Bauhof boss Tim Osterhaus when asked by the local newspaper.

Where two vehicles used to fit one behind the other in a hall, there is now only room for one.

Charging stations for electric cars are provided in the hall

On the other hand, the three electric cars that the municipality ordered for the Peitingmobil offer should also have a parking space in the hall where they can be charged immediately.

Appropriate loading terminals are planned for this, said Kees.

But not only the building yard lacks space.

You also reach your limits in the neighboring fire station.

Mayor Peter Ostenrieder announced that two emergency generators are to be moved from there to the new hall.

Concept required for the building yard location

Herbert Salzmann (SPD) warned that even if the new building would remedy the situation in the short term, a concept for the location would have to be considered in the medium term.

Because the administration building is also very cramped, said the SPD parliamentary group leader, who even spoke of an "imposition".

Osterhaus also confirms that there is a need for action.

The building was originally designed for 15 employees, "today we are 25".

There is no meeting room at all, and the Bauhof boss regrets that there is currently no place to retreat for the three trainees, where they can study undisturbed, for example.

There is also a need for improvement in the showers and changing rooms in order to take account of the increased occupational safety requirements.

"Times have changed there."

During the meeting, the mayor did not want to deny that something has to happen at the site in the near future.

However: he said in advance that the great hope of rebuilding the building yard on a greenfield site will probably have to be abandoned.
