The city of Penzberg has presented a new energy report for its buildings.

The Mayor Prandl School remains a problem child.

It is the lone leader in both heat and power consumption.

At least when it comes to electricity consumption, the Penzberg Museum also stands out.

Penzberg – The new energy report lists the heat and electricity consumption of 21 municipal buildings.

The data refer to the year 2020. He makes it clear once again that there is a need for action, especially at the Mayor Prandl School.

In terms of heat consumption, which has increased compared to 2019, it is alone at the top of all buildings examined.

At over two million kilowatt hours, their annual heat consumption is three times the target value that the city is aiming for.

The school accounts for more than a third of the total heat consumption of the urban buildings examined.

It also holds the top position in terms of power consumption, even if it has fallen slightly.

However, it is still twice as high as the target mark.

Annual energy report is part of the 2019 climate package

The annual energy report is part of the climate package that the city council approved in November 2019.

On this basis, it was said, a renovation plan should be drawn up for the municipal buildings in order to achieve climate neutrality by 2030.

The first energy report was published last year, at that time for 13 buildings.

He was referring to 2019. The Mayor Prandl School was also the frontrunner there.

According to the current 66-page energy report, which the "Energiewende Oberland" (EWO) compiled on behalf of the city, total energy consumption has increased by six percent compared to the previous year.

The EWO suspects that the increased ventilation behavior in connection with the corona pandemic has led to greater heat losses.

This affects schools in particular.

According to EWO, heat accounts for 91 percent of the final energy consumed.

The electricity share is only nine percent.

In 2020, the city spent around 400,000 euros on heat and electricity in the 21 buildings.

Study on the Mayor Prandl School: renovation or new construction

During the presentation to the environmental committee, Karl Schwarzbeck from the city's climate and environmental protection department explained that the report was about recording the current situation.

It will be similar next year if no action is taken.

There has been a feasibility study for the Mayor Prandl School since last year.

It ranges from a general renovation including demolition and new construction of the school gymnasium for around 47.8 million euros to a partial new building for 60.7 million euros.

In view of the high consumption values, Martin Janner (PM) raised the question of whether energy-related refurbishment should be brought forward until a decision has been made.

City master builder Justus Klement explained that the school's heating system had already been renovated, some windows had been replaced and the façade was insulated.

High power consumption at the Penzberger Museum

However, it is not just the Mayor Prandl School that is a problem child.

The museum has a high power consumption, which is many times over the target mark.

The city said that the ventilation system had to take over the complete heating and cooling function due to partially defective concrete core activations and incorrect planning of the system.

The heat output of the heat pump is needed to support the ventilation system.

As deficiencies, she lists single glazing in the old building, insufficient thermal output of the base heating, no air recirculation and the use of mobile fan heaters and ventilation systems.

The city also highlights the old triple gymnasium on Seeshaupter Straße as a building with increased consumption.

The energy standard, it said, corresponds to the year of construction 1971. However, the power consumption is below the target mark.

This also applies to heat consumption, although the gym there ranks third behind the Prandl school and apartments for the elderly on Sigmundstrasse (they will soon be renovated in terms of energy efficiency).

The city sees a great need for action in addition to the Prandl school and museum at the fire station, the building yard, the funeral parlor at the cemetery, the town hall and the sports center at the stadium.
