It's a proud number: The Wolfratshausen registrar Petra Konrad recently sealed a marriage for the 1000th time.

She's still a little nervous today.

Wolfratshausen

– The head registrar Petra Konrad has often heard the word “yes”.

2000 times to be precise - once by the bride and once by the groom.

At the wedding of Erich Wonisch and Maria Nikokavoura, she now sealed a marriage for the 1000th time with her signature - and at the same time celebrated her 25th anniversary as a registrar.

The wedding officer is a Wolfratshauser through and through

Petra Konrad is a Wolfratshauser through and through: "Born here, grew up here, went to school and did the training." The 52-year-old laughs heartily.

"Somehow you can't get me away from here." She doesn't want that at all, and certainly not from her job in the city administration.

When Petra Konrad began her training in 1985 and ended up in the registry office about halfway through, she knew: “That’s exactly what I want to do.

I want to stay here.”

The first marriage was on September 19, 1996

She can remember her first wedding as if it were yesterday.

"It was September 19, 1997, and I don't know who was more excited - the bride or I." 999 marriages later, the heart isn't beating quite as turbulently, but "the hands are still wet".

And that's a good thing: "If it weren't so, I would know that something was wrong and that the whole thing would have become routine.

Then I could stop.”

Lots of goosebump moments

Despite all the bureaucracy, there are always situations in the wedding room in which the registrar would prefer to grab her handkerchief herself.

"Namely when special songs are played." This includes Rainhard Fendrich's "Weus'd a Herz hast wia a Bergwerk" or Franz Schubert's "Ave Maria".

Mary Faganello, daughter of choirmaster Tom Sesto, sang this song live with her crystal-clear voice at a wedding.

"A goosebump moment."

Over the years, Petra Konrad has also had to deal with some changes.

“Until July 1, 1998, witnesses were still compulsory.

Then no more.

It was strange at first when the bridal couple suddenly stood alone in front of you.” She remembers those who would like to marry, who ordered the banquet standing in front of her, only to be married immediately afterwards sitting at the desk.

"But why not," Konrad comments on such flash weddings.

“At one of them we chatted a bit afterwards and had fun like we rarely do.

If it's okay for the bride and groom, then it's okay for me too.” By the way: no bride or groom has yet answered “no”.

A couple appeared in medieval attire

Many weddings are also unforgettable for the registrar.

For example, that of Dominik Stoiber, son of the former Prime Minister Dr.

Edmund Stoiber, and his Melanie.

"That was my most prominent wedding." Or when a bridal couple appeared at the ceremony in medieval clothing.

Normally, the 52-year-old tries to adapt to the style of clothing of the woman who wants to marry - i.e. a classic costume or Bavarian costume.

"But I had to pass."

Many bridal couples still run into her afterwards.

You know and greet each other.

"My family says: 'I can't go anywhere with you - they all know you." Konrad laughs.

"Of course, I don't remember all the names anymore," she says, immediately adding the reason.

“The two only have to remember one face – me in 2000.” Konrad sees some married couples again a few months later, but then as a threesome.

"Issuing the birth certificate is also part of my job."

Incidentally, the woman from Wolfratshausen is still in contact with the groom of her first wedding.

She also meets him again and again in the wedding room.

"But don't think anything wrong now," she says, laughing.

"He comes as a wedding photographer."
