The traffic and beautification association had a model built to show how attractive the square in front of the new Rottach town hall could look.

It should be a basis for discussion.

benches, a fountain, the maypole in the middle.

"A decent village square," says Bogner.

A place where you can start a conversation and where, for example, wedding couples can pour sparkling wine for their guests after the civil wedding in the town hall and enjoy the ambience.

The association presented the model designed by Munich architects at its annual general meeting in the Seeforum.

Around 30 visitors came, including Mayor Christian Köck and his deputy Josef Lang (both CSU) and Treasurer Martin Butz.

With the model, the association wants to give the impetus for a discussion with the citizen, which has not taken place so far.

As reported, the municipal council's decision to demolish the town hall and build a new one on the same spot was made behind closed doors.

When the municipal supervisory authorities digged deeper, a decision in principle was made in a public session, with Mayor Köck declaring that the municipal council wanted to take its time with the planning.

"Unique chance for a village square"

It is important to Bogner that citizens can get involved in this planning.

"We now have the unique opportunity to create a village square," he says.

Because even if the town hall is to remain in its current location, there is plenty of space on the property at the through-road.

The rear area belongs to the municipality and is currently undeveloped.

"So you can simply push the town hall backwards," explains Bogner.

The building currently borders directly on the pavement of the busy main road.

If the administrative headquarters were to move away from the street, there would be plenty of room for an inviting village square.

Mayor Köck, in turn, explained at the meeting what speaks against the idea.

The council has been discussing this for a long time.

"Such a huge forecourt doesn't get us any further," said Köck.

In view of the volume of traffic on the federal highway, he could never offer the desired quality of stay.

In addition, the municipality wants to preserve the area behind the town hall for the future.

It is also important for the construction site to keep the area clear, Köck noted: "We cannot block the main road for the construction work, that would be a disaster." The new building could, however, move back a little from the road.

The location of the neighboring sports store Schlichtner should be a clue.

As a representative building, however, the town hall should not be too far out of sight, according to Köck.

Europe-wide tender for object planning

The mayor made it clear that nothing in the planning was set in stone anyway.

The municipality is currently only in the process of selecting a property planner for the new building with an underground car park.

This is done in a Europe-wide tender.

The town hall building, which has been talked about for 20 years, should now be implemented within a tight time frame.

"The process has started."

The prospect of at least a small forecourt being created makes Bogner "more satisfied", as he says.

The association is no longer pursuing the intention of introducing the realization of the model village square as an application to the municipal council.

"You could turn something like that into a citizens' initiative, but we don't want that," explains Bogner.

The association works well with the community, even a compromise means an improvement.

The model will remain in the Seeforum for the time being and may serve as a suggestion.

Bogner hopes that there will be a lot more public discussion about the new building.

"We're staying tuned," he says.

In the new election, he was again appointed chairman, the new second chairman is Christian Stadler, Sofie Sagstetter takes care of the cash register, Martina Goldhofer is the secretary.
