Alexander Mikheev, Director General of the state-owned Rosoboronexport Corporation, confirmed that the United States and Western countries are trying to get Russia out of the arms market by spreading counterfeit products, noting that Washington violates the foundations of international law by handing over weapons to the Ukrainian army for Afghanistan.
The TASS news agency quoted Mikheev as saying that "the Internet and foreign media are teeming with counterfeit products, and that American and Western propaganda machines are working against Russia with full force, in order to discredit our country, our army and our military equipment, and their attempt to remove us from the arms market by declaring the low combat capability of Russian weapons."
"We know the truth, our military and ground equipment, combat aircraft, helicopters and air defense systems are reliable, powerful, combat-ready and confidently confirm their characteristics," Mikheev added.
On Washington's delivery of Russian-made Mi-17V5 helicopters for Afghanistan to Ukraine, Mikheev stressed that the United States flagrantly violated the foundations of international law and the provisions of Russian-American contract documents.
Mikheev explained that according to the contracts, these helicopters are not subject to re-export or transfer to any third country, which was confirmed by the Pentagon's official commitment to the end-user certificate and the document was signed by former US Secretary of State Hillary Clinton.
In 2011, Russia and the United States signed a contract to supply the Afghan army with 63 Mi-17V Fife helicopters.
