G7 Summit 2022 at Schloss Elmau - A historical overview
The writer, philosopher and theologian Johannes Müller built the property in 1916 and founded a "free space for personal and community life" there.
Müller lectured there on religion and his own worldview, with the result that Schloss Elmau became a popular meeting place for those who shared his views.

Schloss Elmau at the time of National Socialism:
Johannes Müller's criticism of anti-Semitism and the Nazi regime led to his publications and lectures being banned.
In order to prevent the SS from confiscating Elmau Castle, Müller leased the castle to the Wehrmacht in 1942 as a “convalescent home for vacationers from the front”.
After the end of the war in 1945, Johannes Müller was convicted in a denazification process of glorifying Hitler in speech and writing.
The conviction was legally controversial.
