The Spanish health authorities announced the registration of seven confirmed cases of monkeypox virus and 24 suspected cases in the capital, Madrid and the Canary Islands.
The Minister of Health of the Madrid region, Enrique Ruiz Escudero, said in a statement to the media that the cases discovered in the Spanish capital are not serious, indicating that all the injured are men.
He pointed out that the state of health preparedness will be activated and epidemiological surveillance will be given priority, while continuing to isolate the infected and monitor their health development.
The Spanish Ministry of Health had announced earlier that 23 possible cases of monkeypox had been discovered in the capital, Madrid.
