Vaccination of three injections of Fubitai or Kexing is highly effective in preventing severe illness and death

The Scientific Committee under the Centre for Health Protection held an online meeting with an expert advisory group yesterday (19th) to discuss the fourth dose of the new crown vaccine for adults aged 18 to 59 in Hong Kong, and reached a tentative consensus recommendation.

After reviewing the latest scientific evidence and local conditions, it has been shown that the three doses of Fubitai or Kexing are highly effective in preventing severe illness and death, and the protection can generally be maintained at a high level for several months.

After considering the risks and benefits to oneself, the fourth dose can be chosen, but it must be at least six months away from the third dose. The same practice is also applicable to the recovered patients of the same age group.

On the other hand, as people aged 60 or above account for the majority of the deaths in the fifth wave of the local epidemic, experts have advised them to get the fourth dose last month.

Experts will continue to monitor new scientific evidence closely to make recommendations on the number of additional vaccine doses.
