Some could hardly wait for it: the Gautinger Sommerbad got off to the perfect start to the season.

Changing rooms and warm showers are accessible again - and there is more good news.

Gauting – In fantastic weather with bright sun in a white-blue sky, the Gautinger Sommerbad season 2022 opened on Friday. Among the first guests at 9 a.m. were the graduating class of middle school, “to fill up on some vitamin D before the stressful exams”, like Sports teacher Korbinian Resch said.

"We are all happy that the outdoor pool is open again," said the self-confessed morning swimmer Susanne Reichel from Stockdorf.

After two years of Corona with strict hygiene requirements, the changing rooms and warm showers are now accessible again.

On this first day of the season, with traditionally free admission, Christian Ruhdorfer, the town hall employee responsible for the outdoor pool, welcomed the bathers with a small candy.

He knows most early swimmers by name.

"We are all very grateful that we have our outdoor pool and that it continues despite Corona," said season ticket holder Aleksandra Kontonc-Geuter to Merkur.

The pensioner had brought reading material for the books fridge in her cloth bag.

She comes every day to keep fit.

On Friday morning she had already completed a two-hour walk.

Karlheinz Kutzelmann from Berg, who also has a season ticket, emphasized after a few lengths in the heated 50-meter sports pool: "I'd rather be here than in Lake Starnberg." The lake is still too cold in May.

Roberta Salerno (16), head girl at the middle school, also appreciates the training pool that glitters in the sunlight.

The advantage of the lake is that you can see the bottom.

In the summer pool she meets friends from the Würmtal.

"I'd rather go to the lake," said her co-student representative Jod Altakrit (16), who also lives in Starnberg.

Olympic athlete from 1972 gives swimming lessons

Steffen Pilz, who took part in the 1972 Olympic Games in Munich, takes care of the slide in the teaching pool.

As every season, the trainer offers swimming courses for children.

The goal is that after a week with the starfish, the girls and boys should be able to keep their arms wide open and body tension above the water and not sink, explains the trained lifeguard.

Brand new in the summer pool: Meike Riermaier is offering massages there for the first time.

You can book them by phone on 01 79/ 912 37 55.

The admission prices remain the same: adults pay six euros per day, children and young people 2.50 euros.

The season ticket for adults costs 100 euros, the reduced 45 euros and for families 135 euros.

On July 3rd, the newly founded Freibad Gauting association is organizing a festival called “50 years of the Olympics”.

As is well known, the summer pool at the Würm training facility, which was once rebuilt with subsidies, was used for the Munich Games in 1972.
