A fresco of metro tickets at Saint-Lazare station: an ode to transition and travel

2022-05-21T09:16:37.862Z

The artist Madame, known for her collages, created a fresco under the dome of this large Parisian station to pay homage to the coach

“Yes, it's pretty, comments Jocelyne, her suitcase and her tickets for Lorient in her hand, pensive in front of the work in progress.

At least, it allows not to throw the tickets.

This Friday morning, Madame was finishing under the dome of Saint-Lazare, a giant collage in homage to the paper ticket book, doomed to disappear.

Thousands of tickets have been collected for several weeks in a dozen Parisian stations and stations.

“I am already at 5,000 staples”

" And it continues.

When people stop to chat, they end up looking deep in their pockets to try to find one,” says the artist, without looking up.

Meticulously, she repaints them in gold one by one, then staples them on the black letters of the chosen phrase: “For the trips to come, we will make notebooks a souvenir”.

"I'm already at 5,000 staples," smiles the artist.

Of its realization, it gives some keys to understanding: "I wanted to talk about this notion of transition while explaining that it is something soft, light, which is part of the dynamics of the trip".

A work commissioned by IDFM

“It's fun and original, confirms Stéphane Beaudet, vice-president of the regional council, in charge of transport.

And it is a hyphen between yesterday, today and tomorrow”.

This collage was commissioned by Île-de-France Mobilités, the transport organizing authority, to pay a final tribute to cardboard metro tickets.

The fresco will remain on the top floor of Saint-Lazare until Monday, May 30.

Then, she will also embark on a journey with several stopovers.

She settled in Auber for a few days, then adorned the head offices of RATP, SNCF and then IDFM.

"We don't know yet where she will go next.

Maybe she will return to the streets, ”wonders Île-de-France Mobilités.

If the single ticket is still available for sale, the booklet is on the way out.

In the course of 2022, it will gradually leave the automatons of 176 metro and RER/RATP stations with moderate attendance and 49 SNCF stations.

Before the final shutdown, at the end of the year or perhaps a little later.

At the same time, the Navigo Easy pass or the Liberty + card will appear.

However, the timing will depend on the market for raw materials and the supply of electronic chips.
