In 1949, when "Beyond the grids" by René Clément was rewarded, he discreetly congratulated his partner Isa Miranda, winner of the Prize for female interpretation.
To please friendly producers and directors, he sometimes deviated from this rule by sacrificing to the ritual of climbing the steps of the Cannes Film Festival.
In 1961, he thus appeared in front of the photographers on the arm of Françoise Arnoul, his partner, seven years earlier, in French Cancan, directed by Jean Renoir.
In 1958, on the other hand, he resolutely played the card of discretion.

Came to receive on the Croisette the Volpi cup awarded by the Venice festival, he did not get off the Train Bleu in Cannes, as had been planned.
