Chief Executive Carrie Lam Cheng Yuet-ngor, Secretary for Innovation and Technology Xue Yongheng, Secretary for Financial Services and the Treasury Hui Zhengyu, and Acting Secretary for Home Affairs Chan Chik-chi met with Government House, Cyberport, Central Government Offices and Youth Square today (21st) respectively. A total of more than 70 committee meetings passed the "Young Committee Self-recommendation Scheme".
Carrie Lam said, "Young people are the most dynamic, creative and potential for social development in society. The Secretary and I are very pleased to be appointed to the Government today together with dozens of 'self-recommendation schemes'. The youth members of the Advisory Committee talked and felt the enthusiasm of this group of young people from different backgrounds and sectors to inject new thinking into the government’s policy formulation process, as well as their commitment to promoting social stability and development.”
She said that the "Self-Nomination Scheme" will continue to play the role of recruiting talents. By regularly opening up committees involving policy areas that young people are more interested in and concerned about, more young people who are interested in serving the society can self-recommend to participate and show their strengths.
The current government launched the "Self-Nomination Scheme" at the end of October 2017, allowing young people aged 18 to 35 who are motivated to serve the community to self-nominate to join government advisory and statutory bodies. The scheme was then regularized and expanded to more committees in 2018.
The latest phase of the program has closed for applications in mid-March and is currently undergoing evaluation.
