China has been highly critical of the recent Canadian ban on the use of equipment and services from Chinese technology giants Huawei and ZTE in its communications systems.
"The Canadian government imposed the ban on the two companies citing national security concerns without any concrete evidence," Xinhua news agency quoted a spokesperson for the Chinese Ministry of Commerce as saying, stressing that the move was a wrong decision and sent wrong signals.
The spokesman noted that the new Canadian measure violated the principles of market economy and free trade rules, harmed the commercial interests of relevant Chinese and Canadian companies, and undermined the confidence of enterprises of the two countries in carrying out mutually beneficial cooperation.
The Chinese official called on the Canadian side to deal with the Sino-Canadian cooperation in an objective and rational manner and immediately retract such illegal actions, noting that China will evaluate the impact of Canadian measures on Chinese companies and reserves the right to take any necessary measures in this regard.
