Berglern and Wartenberg are struggling with willful damage to property.

Donations are now being collected for the repair of the destroyed field cross in Niederlern.

There was even an arson attack at the Wartenberg school.

Berglern/Wartenberg

– The field cross in Niederlern on Kreuzstraße is regularly damaged.

It's the field cross that ultimately gave the street its name, and it's a work of art made of stained glass set in metal.

Unknown persons had broken this glass with targeted stones.

The topic was raised at the citizens' meeting, and Elke Kriegmair received a lot of encouragement for going public with it.

Mayor Anton Scherer made this an occasion for an appeal to the public to pay attention to this.

Another idea was a call for donations so that the cross can be repaired.

Scherer picked this up: The municipality is asking for donations for the repairs by bank transfer to the account with the IBAN DE 56 7005 1995 0000 1097 10 and the reference field "Feldkreuz Kreuzstraße".

However, after consultation with the Treasury, the mayor had to make it clear that these donations cannot be claimed for tax purposes.

However, there was no objection in the citizens' meeting when the demand for camera surveillance came up so that the perpetrators could be caught.

A wildlife camera was specifically mentioned in an interjection.

These devices are inexpensive, can be camouflaged and react to movement via a sensor, even at night.

Berglern is not alone with the vandalism problem.

Scherer said in an interview with the Erdinger Anzeiger after the citizens' meeting: "It's really sad what's going on there."

Berglern's VG neighbor, Wartenberg, is also struggling with vandalism.

At the meeting of the school association, Mayor Christian Pröbst vented his anger.

It is no longer about damage to property like the figure of the bridge saint, which is to be set up again in the next few days.

It's no longer "just" about obscene graffiti, but about arson: yellow bags were set on fire on the terrace of the school canteen.

It was only through luck and attention that nothing more happened here.

According to the market manager's report, the same applies to the community center.

As reported, a house facade has already been damaged.

"We are currently the leaders in the district," growled Pröbst and went on to report that the Erding criminal police had started the investigation.

His list of damaged public and private facilities grew longer and longer.

A clear praise went to the building yard, which in many cases was able to repair the damage at an enormous speed.

Pröbst made it clear: "I'm really mad at these idiots." But the Wartenberg market is not defenseless: "We will force video surveillance at the school," explained the mayor - and didn't stop with this announcement: "The staff council has already agreed, we are also with the data protection officer.”

Fraunberg's mayor, Hans Wiesmaier, warned against general suspicion.

"It's a bunch of lunatics who have so much criminal energy," he said.

Pröbst also agreed.

By the way: everything from the region is now also available in our regular Erding newsletter.
