Former US President Donald Trump has paid a fine of $110,000 in a lawsuit over the release of documents.

Trump paid the amount on Thursday, a spokesman for the New York State Attorney's Office said.

The background is investigations into Trump's corporate empire for possibly fraudulent business practices.

According to investigators, Trump and the family holding company Trump Organization artificially inflated the value of real estate when they wanted to obtain loans from banks, and in other cases undervalued to have to pay less taxes or insurance premiums.

In the course of the investigation, the public prosecutor had unsuccessfully requested tax and bank documents.

Trump's lawyers said they could not find the documents.

The public prosecutor's office finally applied for a penalty payment for obstructing the investigation.

New York's Supreme Court on April 25 ordered Trump to pay $10,000 a day unless he cooperated with an investigation.

On May 6, the responsible judge suspended the order – it had already run up a sum of 110,000 US dollars for eleven days.

Trump had until Friday to pay the money and submit the required files.

According to prosecutors, he did both.

Also criminal investigations

The former president has repeatedly described the investigation as politically motivated.

Attorney General Letitia James, a member of President Joe Biden's Democratic Party, is responsible.

In parallel with the Attorney General's investigation, the Manhattan Attorney's Office is conducting a criminal investigation into Trump Corporation's business conduct.

In July last year, charges were brought against the Trump Organization and its longtime chief financial officer, Allen Weisselberg, for tax fraud.

The process is scheduled to begin this year.
