The fire brigade of the Banias Refinery Company put out the fire that broke out this morning near the refinery wall on the border adjacent to the industrial zone of the city.
The director of Baniyas Refinery Company, Mahmoud Qassem, said in a statement to SANA reporter that the fire was far from the refinery’s tanks and that it occurred in an area of waste and dry weeds, in which a 20 kilovolt voltage line passes, which caused an electrical short-circuit that led to ignition of weeds and the emission of thick smoke in the atmosphere of the city, as a result of the dry east winds. .
In turn, the mayor of Baniyas, Eng. Bashar Hamza, indicated in a similar statement that the fire was completely controlled and the firefighting cadres are currently in the cooling phase, pointing out that the municipal fire brigade were on alert and fully prepared from the side of the industrial zone until the end of the fire in preparation for controlling it in case it spreads. towards the city.
