In Kuwait, this morning, the voting process began to elect eight members of the municipal council, which consists of 16 members.
The Kuwait News Agency (KUNA) stated that 438,283 Kuwaitis are entitled to participate in the elections and will vote in 433 committees distributed over 8 constituencies.
36 candidates, including one woman, compete in these elections to fill eight seats in the council. Previously, the candidates of the seventh and tenth districts were declared the winners of the municipal council membership by acclamation, as no one competed with them during the opening of the nomination window.
Six members will be appointed by decree within 15 days from the date of announcing the election results, while the term of the Municipal Council will last four years from the date of its first meeting after the elections.
This session is the 13th since the start of the municipal council elections, as the council has previously witnessed 12 general elections during 61 years.
