Syria and Serbia signed today in Belgrade a memorandum of understanding for bilateral cooperation in the agricultural field.
The memorandum signed by the Minister of Agriculture and Agrarian Reform, Eng. Mohamed Hassan Qatna, and the Serbian Minister of Agriculture, Forestry and Water Management, Pristlav Nadimovic, includes supporting and strengthening cooperation in the fields of agricultural scientific research, developing and introducing modern technologies in the agricultural, plant and animal fields, cooperation in the fields of biotechnologies, organic agriculture and aquaculture, and developing policies Quality in agriculture and ways to implement it through the exchange of experiences and the implementation of training courses.
The memorandum also includes the development and implementation of projects of mutual benefit to address the basic issues and priorities in the agricultural sector and give importance to the localization of agricultural production and industrial chains and the practices associated with them to achieve raising the added value of agricultural products.
The signing of the memorandum was preceded by a session of talks between the two ministers, Katana and Nadimovich, during which they discussed ways to enhance economic and trade relations between the two countries.
During the meeting, Eng. Qatna stressed the need to raise the level of trade exchange between the two countries, referring to the laws and instructions regulating agricultural and veterinary quarantines, which are the main nucleus of determinants of trade exchange.
The engineer also drew attention to the technical and financial conditions for importing fodder and exchanging phosphate and nitrogen fertilizer products, informing the Serbian side of a calendar of fresh agricultural products, including the quantities that can be exported to Serbia with the dates available.
For his part, the Serbian Minister of Agriculture indicated his country's desire to enhance trade exchange with Syria, stressing the importance of raising the economic, agricultural and commercial relations to the level of political relations between the two friendly countries, and the need to benefit from the ability of the Serbian side to export many of its surplus agricultural products, including wheat, corn, corn oil, and millet. Sun, fertilizer and fodder.
Engineer Qatna and his accompanying delegation participated in the opening of the 89th International Agricultural Exhibition, which is currently being held in the Serbian city of Novi Sad, and which is one of the largest and most important exhibitions in the region, with 21 countries participating in it, in addition to many companies specialized in agricultural, food and animal products.
The delegation accompanying the Minister of Agriculture, consisting of Dr. Rami Al-Ali, Assistant Minister of Agriculture, Muhammad Kashto, President of the Federation of Syrian Chambers of Agriculture, Asim Suleiman from the Federation of Chambers of Agriculture, and the Syrian Embassy, the Plenipotentiary Minister Dr. Ammar Awad, Chargé d'Affairs of the Syrian Embassy in Belgrade, and Minister Counselor Amid Hamdan participated in the meetings.
