In addition to the Penzberger Volksfestplatz, the long-planned parking spaces for holidaymakers traveling with campers are currently being built.

There will be twelve parking spaces for tourists.

Contrary to what was thought, however, it does not work to open the place in time before the Pentecost holidays.

Penzberg – Penzberg may not be the destination of many tourists, but the region is extremely popular with holidaymakers.

In order to benefit a little from tourism, parking spaces for motorhome vacationers are now to be created next to the fairground on the Berghalde.

Eleonore Hofmann, who is responsible for tourism promotion in the city of Penzberg, cites a study by the Kempten University of Applied Sciences from 2021.

Accordingly, campers are people with good purchasing power who spend up to 50 euros per day or overnight stay.

A few years ago, the Pfaffenwinkel Tourist Association calculated that mobile home travelers spent an average of 60 euros per person on shopping or eating out.

Twelve RV sites on the Berghalde - currently still a construction site

The roughly 65-metre-long and ten-metre-wide strip between the Volksfestplatz and the Stockschützenbahn is still a construction site.

At least the connections for electricity, water and waste water are prepared.

Actually, the "tourist mobile home parking spaces" should be completed by Pentecost, according to city architect Justus Klement.

"But that doesn't work for two weeks." There were problems with the delivery of asphalt and small parts.

The place can therefore only be opened shortly after the Pentecost holidays.

With a small caveat.

According to Eleonore Hofmann, the delivery of the parking column will still take some time.

The delivery time is said to be several months.

Nevertheless, she advocates that the parking space should be opened as soon as possible - even if camper drivers will park for free at first.

It could take even longer for the parking column to be delivered

Hofmann and Klement presented the current status at the building committee meeting this week.

As planned, twelve parking spaces will be created on which mobile home drivers can park for up to 48 hours.

This should cost ten euros for 24 hours and 15 euros for 48 hours.

The electricity has to be paid separately.

A garbage collection point will also be set up.

A copy of the parking space in Benediktbeuern, which opened five years ago, serves as a model.

According to Hofmann, an information board should also be put up for vacationers, pointing them to culture, sports, leisure, restaurants or doctors.

Power supply should be upgraded

Originally, eight of the twelve parking spaces were to be supplied with electricity via a power column that had already been used at Kirnberger See.

At the meeting, however, Hardi Lenk (SPD) suggested extending this to all pitches, which was unanimously approved.

This requires another power column, the cost of which is estimated at around 2500 euros.

The total costs for the "tourist camper pitches" amount to around 38,000 euros.

When Jack Eberl (FLP) pointed out that the new pitch should be registered on the internet and in pitch apps, Hofmann explained that this would happen.

"From experience, word will get around quickly," she said.

RV sites: A first attempt failed

The plan to offer mobile home parking spaces in Penzberg has been around for some time.

A first attempt failed after only one year.

In autumn 2020, the camper place at the bathing lake on Gut Hub was closed again after complaints.

As a result, there were several ideas.

The considerations for a location on Birkenstraße, where the crèche is currently still located, became most concrete.

In the search for an interim solution, the strip next to the Volksfestplatz came into play a year ago - but the square there could now become a permanent facility.
