Waakirchen – The new Waakirchen fire station was inaugurated with an open day.

Comrades from the area were also there – and even from further away.

For a long time Corona did not allow any big festivals.

All the greater was the joy of finally being able to officially inaugurate the new Waakirchner fire station - a good six months after the fire department moved in.

Numerous firefighters and guests of honor from the neighboring communities rejoiced with the Waakirchners.

The public was able to find out more about the new operations center and the work of the fire brigade at the open day.

"What can I say - I'm at home," said Stefan Britz, First Waakirchner Fire Brigade Commander at the official handover.

He praised the good cooperation with the community and those responsible for construction, the great camaraderie and the support from the population.

A fundraiser that ran parallel to the construction of the fire station raised around 80,000 euros.

As a thank you, all sponsors are now immortalized on a donation board in the community room.

Modern vehicles too big for old weirs

Mayor Norbert Kerkel reviewed the beginnings of the large-scale project beforehand.

The old fire brigade equipment house next to the Waakirchner town hall was no longer up to the ultra-modern vehicles that had been purchased in recent years.

In the previous legislature, the municipal councils agreed to remedy the situation, "because we don't want to and shouldn't save on our fire brigade," said Kerkel.

The municipality then quickly managed to provide the necessary funds and, above all, to get a suitable plot of land.

Kerkel thanked the seller of the property, Florian Meier.

The previously estimated construction costs of 3.5 million euros were even undercut.

This is not least thanks to the many people and 34 companies involved in the planning, coordination of construction and construction supervision.

Kerkel gave special thanks to the Waakirchen KU housing association with chairman Luitpold Grabmeyer, to construction supervisor Andreas Hagleitner and architect Thomas Schmidt, and to the good soul of the project, Evi Englmann.

"The completion of the house optimizes safety and makes our firefighters' meritorious work easier," said the mayor.

Praise for the Waakirchen fire brigade team

"If we all help together and support each other, only then can everything succeed," emphasized Pastor Stefan Fischbacher, who took over the church blessing of the house with Pastor Sabine Arzberger and pastoral officer Christoph Mädler.

There is protection for everything from boots to fire engines, it is a place for service, meeting and exchange, especially after heavy operations, Arzberger affirmed.

Jens Zangenfeind, deputy district administrator and Hausham's mayor, brought words of greeting and thanks from the district, who praised the courageous decision of the municipality and the strong team of the fire brigade.

Waakirchen's former mayor, Sepp Hartl, during whose tenure the building decision was made, also thanked the fire brigade for their commitment: "What you are doing is professional."

You need a home for that, too.

Comrades arrived from Brandenburg

The fact that the camaraderie among the firefighters is generally great was proven by the numerous delegations from neighboring towns who accepted the invitation to the inauguration and accompanied the residents of Waakirch at the festive entry.

In addition to the local fire brigades from Schaftlach and Piesenkam and the Marienstein fire brigade association, firefighters from Louisenthal, Gmund, Tegernsee, Reichersbeuern, Greiling, Kreuth, Rottach-Egern, Bad Tölz-Wolfratshausen and Rosenheim joined the well-wishers.

A troop from the Zeesen volunteer fire brigade, a district of the city of Königs Wusterhausen, had come all the way from Brandenburg and presented their Waakirchner friends with an emergency cabinet complete with liquid Berlin air.

Among the guests of honour, a number of mayors from the surrounding communities, such as Robert Kühn from Bad Wiessee and Klaus Thurnhuber from Warngau, as well as Alexander Radwan, member of the Bundestag, took the opportunity to personally congratulate them.

Operational quarters at the Hauserdörfl roundabout

After the official part, all guests were able to look at the new operations center at their leisure.

Who dared even from dizzying heights - in the rescue cage of the turntable ladder, which can be extended up to 30.5 meters and which was brought to the open day by the fire brigade of the city of Tegernsee.

The operational quarters at the roundabout in Hauserdörfl are equipped with five vehicle parking spaces and a spacious changing room on the ground floor as well as an underground car park for storing and maintaining the ultra-modern equipment.

On the upper floor there is a spacious common room, which can also serve as a shelter for the population in an emergency, including a kitchen and bar as well as a large meeting and seminar room.

Three apartments have also been created in the same building.
