Paula Arenas and Manuel Medrano presented "Puro Sentiment" last week, the first collaboration between Colombian artists.

The song speaks of the unequivocal attraction between two people and is the second single of the year for Arenas, who began 2022 with a Grammy nomination for best Latin pop album.

The song arose on a trip from Arenas to Bogota, the singer told Zona Pop CNN through a conversation via Zoom from Mexico.

"I went to Bogotá and we began to write the song with my great friend Juan Pablo [Vega], who is also a close friend of Manuel [Medrano], also a producer of his and mine on several occasions. And it was very nice because this song came out also inspired a little in the vein of the Bee Gees. We needed Manuel in this song and I sent it to him and Manuel liked it, clearly, because rather, in that same week you wrote all your part. It was a divine experience, " Arenas told CNN Pop Zone.

And for Medrano it was the proposal that he did not think twice about.

"I didn't have much to think about. The song is great," says Medrano.

One of the aspects that attracted the interpreter of songs like "Bajo el agua" was the vibe of the song and the style very close to the musical proposal of Paula Arenas.

"Apart from everything and regardless of the fact that it had a lot of the essence of the two, I feel that the song is very original, very contemporary, with a glamorous, elegant touch. There had always been a

with Paula to do something together at some point . I love his voice and his project. So, I accepted the invitation and that same week I went to the studio where JuanPa wrote a bit for a space that there was for a verse. I supported some choirs with my voice and this was the result," says Medrano.

"Manuel's talent is a divine thing," says Arenas.

"His voice, a total admirer, you know it," Arenas tells Medrano in the middle of the conversation.

Why did Paula Arenas approach the sound of the eighties?

And with the Bee Gees as inspiration for this song, it is inevitable to wonder what caught the attention of both Arenas and its producer, Juan Pablo Vega, of that sound to incorporate it into a song in the middle of 2022. The key, they point out, it is longing.

"I think it's nostalgia for the past," Arenas tells CNN Pop Zone.

"Good music always prevails," he explains.

In addition, the music of the Bee Gees is something that Arenas reproduces today because, he explains, "it is more current than ever."

"Yo siento que es música que no es de una sola época, sino que traspasa", agrega la cantautora.

And this collaboration was not just a song and a video clip.

Manuel Medrano invited Paula Arenas to his "Eterno" tour in Mexico, in which they have sung in cities such as Monterrey and the capital, Mexico City.

"Just as she invited me to the collaboration, I invited her to sing it together in concert. It has been a success, the tour has been a success, the people have received it with great affection and, of course, Paula too. She has a talent so overflowing that it connects very easily with people, especially when they see it live," Medrano told CNN Pop Zone.
