Penzberg – The Penzberg CSU has a new chairwoman: Maria Probst (41) was elected at the meeting on Friday evening (May 20th).

The councilwoman was the only candidate at the meeting in the town hall.

Probst succeeds Nick Lisson, who led the Christsozialen for seven years.

The greatest success in 2020 was winning the mayoral post for his party.

The 41-year-old Probst had been the preferred candidate of the local board.

The landscape architect was already deputy chairwoman, has been in the CSU since 2013 and has been a member of the city council for the party since January 2017.

In 2021 she also took over the chairmanship of the parliamentary group.

At 92.1 percent, the election result was no surprise: 35 of the 40 voting members present voted for the 41-year-old.

Urban political balancing act

"Penzberg is my home," emphasized Probst, who runs the medium-sized gardening and landscaping business as a family business with her husband.

She stated that she wanted to continue the "positive development" of the city as a political goal.

Probst also spoke of a "balancing act" that needs to be accomplished - between growth and a livable and lovable city.

She stands for a "politics of cooperation," she explained with a view to the city council, in which six parliamentary groups have been represented since the 2022 election.

With Stefan Korpan, the CSU is the first to provide the head of town hall in the former SPD stronghold.

The only local political head of the new CSU chairmen that evening also went in the direction of the Social Democrats.

"Penzberg is not red," says Probst, referring to recent publications by the competition.

Penzberg is “but not black either”, added Probst – “Penzberg is colourful.” She does not want to reverse the course taken by her predecessor in the 107-member local association.

Probst emphasized the "strong team" that made the recent political successes possible in the first place.

Kudos to Lisson

Nick Lisson was said goodbye in the small hall of the town hall with many words of praise and gifts.

The 36-year-old made it public in March that he wanted to resign from all political offices on the board and in the city and district councils.

Lisson took over the local presidency in 2015 and survived a palace revolt in 2017.

"You wrote history," said Harald Kühn, member of the CSU state parliament, in recognition of the outgoing front man's electoral success.

"From the CSU point of view, Penzberg was a hopeless case."
