The Secretary for Commerce and Economic Development, Mr Edward Yau, attended the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation Trade Ministers' Meeting in Bangkok, Thailand today (21st), saying that international trade can only be carried out effectively under a stable, predictable and rules-based multilateral trading system .

Advocate APEC to promote multilateral trading system
Yau Tenghua said that Hong Kong has always firmly supported free and open trade and investment, and believes that APEC member economies should jointly become a strong driving force behind the multilateral trading system to reduce differences and build consensus.
Yau also participated in the public-private dialogue session between the Minister of Trade and the APEC Business Advisory Council in the morning. He stressed that Hong Kong supports APEC's long-term work towards the realization of the Asia-Pacific Free Trade Area.
He reiterated that Hong Kong is ready to join the Regional Comprehensive Economic Partnership as soon as possible.
Yau Tenghua also pointed out that Hong Kong believes that the ministerial meeting of the World Trade Organization to be held in Geneva, Switzerland, must respond to the new crown virus and assist the world in addressing current challenges and future global public health crises.
