There were and are many suggestions for a route for the Holzkirchner southern bypass.

In the end there are only two options.

This is the conclusion of a municipal council meeting.

Holzkirchen - The evening was sobering, said Stefan Scheel, a resident of Tölzer Straße in Holzkirchen.

Christian Hirschberg from the protection association against traffic disturbances in Holzkirchen was confident.

Just looking at the interpretation of the discussion event in the Oberbräu hall on the southern bypass showed: There can be no question of unity.

That's only natural.

Animal protection must be weighed against noise protection, and from a sustainability point of view, many seem questionable as to whether a bypass is necessary at all.

So much potential for conflict.

Although it has been clear since January 2021 that a remote bypass running south of Holzkirchen, Großhartpenning and Kurzenberg may not be built for reasons of species protection law, a new option has emerged with the so-called Variant 3.2.

This leads past Großhartpenning in the south and touches on Kurzenberg – in contrast to the previous variant 3 – in the north.

However, as Andreas Dorsch from the engineering office of the same name presented in his faunistic analysis, this route is also opposed to nature conservation concerns.

He named hage as well as living quarters of insects, birds and bats.

His conclusion: "You can't build this route under nature conservation law, because it can be done elsewhere without damage."

Two variants are possible

Elsewhere – as was made clear during the meeting – means: Variants 4 and 5 are possible. Variant 4 runs between Kleinhartpenning and Großhartpenning, Variant 5 connects the B 13 and the B 318 in the south of Holzkirchen.

Third Mayor Albert Kraml (CSU) expressed his disappointment with the results of Dorsch's analysis: "Are bats worth more than people?" he asked.

According to his calculation, there is only a very high potential for conflict with nature conservation law over a distance of just 140 meters.

It annoys him, Kraml explained, that the variants supported by his faction are not being pursued because of these 140 meters.

Group spokesman Sebastian Franz even spoke of a "difficult day for all Holzkirchner".

Wolfgang Huber (SPD) and Torsten Hensel (FWG) called for their own faunistic analysis for variants 4 and 5. There is nothing new in the south, Hensel summarized the previous results of a southern bypass of Kurzenberg.

However, the people from Holzkirch deserved to take a closer look at the remaining routes.

Robert Wiechmann (Greens) emphasized that Dorsch's spatial resistance analyzes are not just about technical aspects, but about "law and order".

Now the following applies: "Whoever says the southern bypass says variant 4 and 5."

financing plan later

It is well known that his parliamentary group opposes a southern bypass.

The costs were addressed by Holzkirchner citizens who were present in the hall or connected via live stream.

Currently, around 85.5 million euros are estimated for the two routes 4 and 5 together.

According to Matthias Kreuz from the Rosenheim State Building Authority, which is responsible for the project, a detailed financing plan will only be developed as the process progresses.

More expensive projects, such as a tunnel variant brought into play by Josef Sappl senior (CSU), would not be paid for by the federal government.

The statement made by Mayor Christoph Schmid (CSU) in an interview with our newspaper, according to which the federal government could also build Variant 5 if the people in Holzkirch reject this variant - it is in the Federal Transport Route Plan as an "urgent need" - was not accepted by Kreuz approved.

The federal government has determined that it will not implement the bypass if the community rejects it, said Kreuz.

The Bund Naturschutz (Bund Naturschutzbund) asked whether the Holzkirchner bypass could be eliminated as part of a federal traffic route plan that is expected to be revised in 2030.

Neither Kreuz nor Schmid knew an answer to this.

"I'm far from participating in speculation," said Schmid.

The population should have a say

The arguments from the citizens and from the municipal council are not all new.

What influence they have will possibly become apparent later this year.

If Mayor Schmid has his way, the population will be able to vote on variants 4 and 5 in the fall.

It is important to him, emphasized the head of the town hall, that many people have a say.

Of course, a corresponding resolution by the municipal council is required.

The southern clasp has been discussed for years.

Already in 2020 there were supporters and opponents.
