The initiators of Schliersee choose a format that is rather unconventional for an association: In a "program conference" everyone can contribute ideas.

Here's how it works.

Schliersee

– Corona has inhibited the Schliersee reads association in its zest for action, but not paralyzed it.

All the more the members around the chairman Christoph Seidenfus are now scratching their hooves to finally implement their many ideas about reading in the village.

And they are already looking for new inspiration again – also from outside.

At the open program conference on Tuesday, May 24, at 7 p.m. in the Vital World, everyone who is interested is invited to take part.

In an interview, Seidenfus reveals what they need to bring with them.

Mr. Seidenfus, in your open program conference you invite all interested parties to collect ideas.

Isn't there enough of that in the Schliersee club's own ranks?

Christoph Seidenfus:

We are pursuing a different approach: There are so many people in Schliersee and in the neighboring communities who have exciting ideas and impulses, but cannot implement them due to a lack of resources of their own or do not dare to do so.

For example, someone has an idea for an event, but they don't have the space or the right technology.

Or he lacks the network to draw the target group's attention to it or to acquire funding.

This is where our “Schliersee Reads” association comes into play.

What can you contribute here?

Christoph Seidenfus:

Schliersee reads is of course first and foremost a culture-supporting association that is dedicated to the joy of reading.

At the same time, however, we are also a platform on which everyone who has good ideas about reading and dealing with books can get involved.

And we offer experience, knowledge, networks, encouragement, support and also funding opportunities to make these ideas a reality.

What return do you expect?

Christoph Seidenfus:

If you are aiming for permanent commitments: We tick differently.

Even if we naturally want to gain new members and are happy about participation: We work on a project basis.

Everyone can contribute to the extent that they can imagine.

The only requirement is enthusiasm for everything that has to do with reading.

And the desire to do something about it in our community.

That was also our goal when we founded “Schliersee Reads” three years ago.

Because of Corona, however, you were only able to implement a fraction of your planned program.

Christoph Seidenfus:

That is correct.

Above all, we had to keep postponing the big reading festival in April 2020, for which we also received a Leader grant of around 13,500 euros.

Now we are planning it for 2023. Leader has thankfully agreed to that.

But we haven't been idle in other areas either.

In lockdown times, for example, we did a number of online readings and last summer we did our haiku campaign with the middle school.

And yes, we too have learned something in the pandemic.

Namely?

Christoph Seidenfus:

Together with Patrick von Hoessle and the cameraman Roger Barth, we have succeeded in establishing a highly professional and yet inexpensive streaming technology.

This is already being booked by other providers.

A nice source of income for our association, which helps us to implement the ideas mentioned.

What have you planned as an association, regardless of the results of the open program conference?

Christoph Seidenfus:

Above all, we want to get more children and young people on board.

To this end, we will expand our cooperation with kindergartens, schools, the book oasis and the Kulturvision association and develop offers together.

Specifically, we have in mind, for example, winning prominent reading sponsors.

I'm thinking above all of athletes, who have a high level of sympathy among the younger generation.

Ultimately, our aim is to show people how enriching reading can be.

It offers space for your own ideas, stimulates the imagination and also offers the "handles for the soul" that are necessary for some in these times.

In what way?

Christoph Seidenfus:

Reading provides structure, reliability and rhythm.

And it depicts a wide variety of topics that can stimulate us on many levels.

That is very good, especially now that bad news is omnipresent.
