The city of Olching has been awarded the contract to host the Special Olympic World Games 2023 in Berlin.
Olching – A delegation of disabled athletes will be accommodated in the city before the competition days.
Now it's clear who that will be: athletes from St. Kitts and Nevis in the eastern Caribbean.
Mayor Andreas Magg (SPD) reported this to the members of the Education and Social Committee on Thursday evening.
"This is apparently one of the smallest states in the world with one of the highest murder rates." And then he added jokingly: "A return visit is currently not planned."
(By the way: Everything from the region is now also available in our regular FFB newsletter.)
The organization is already in full swing.
The first volunteers have already reported to the parents of disabled children (EbK) to help.
There are two working groups, for example to set up the integrative sports festival.
According to Magg, all of this is "not exactly easy".
Social Welfare Manager Peter Söllinger explained that a few things had to be considered in the program.
The athletes would have a "gigantic arrival".
On the first day there was little to do with them.
"We can't pick them up from the airport and go straight to the Allianz Arena and Neuschwanstein Castle." There are also participants over 80 years of age.
However, EbK chairwoman Manuela Brehmer, who initiated the application, has already collected many ideas.
