In conjunction with the start of picking the Damascene rose in the Qalamoun area in the Damascus countryside governorate, the Nabek Agriculture Department, in coordination with the Rural Development Division in the extension unit in the town of Qara, held a training course targeting 12 women in the town to encourage the expansion of rose cultivation within home gardens, with a focus on the economic feasibility of this type of flower. Small projects, especially for women.
Head of the Department of Agriculture in Al-Nabek Youssef Farah explained in a statement to SANA reporter that the course included a practical training on the best methods for preparing Damascene rose products such as jam, syrup, rose water and other products that can be manufactured at home, and methods of preparing sweets and dairy products flavored with Damascene Rose.
The course’s axes, according to Farah, also focused on the economic, nutritional, medical and cosmetic importance of the Damascene rose, presenting the best times to harvest it and how to dry the buttons and store them in the right way to protect them from insects.
Farah indicated that the training courses will be expanded to include the largest number of beneficiaries, especially that rural women in the Qalamoun region possess information and the basis for work in this field. families in their livelihood.
Farah confirmed that there is a plan to expand the cultivation of the Damascene rose in Qalamoun in the coming years to reach 3,500 dunams in the event of the availability of appropriate climatic conditions, noting that the total cultivated area in Qalamoun is currently 2,950 dunums, most of which is concentrated in the village of Al-Marah.
