Sad ending: Sahar Perl (18) arrived on Thursday afternoon to spend time with friends at the gorge lake in Rishon Lezion, but soon the pastime took a tragic turn.
His bitch, Lucky, who has been with him since he was a young boy, went into the water and began to drift in the current.
Pearl, who took care of his bitch tried to pull her back but was also swept away and began to drown.
"He jumped without hesitation to save her. He did not think twice. She was his great love. My life partner always called her," his acquaintances said.
Following him, a friend who was staying at the place went into the water in an attempt to get him out and also got into trouble.
Inspectors from the Rishon Lezion Municipality managed to rescue them and began initial treatment that continued with the arrival of MDA teams at the scene.
The team that arrived at the scene said: "We arrived with an intensive care unit and walked to the wounded man who was lying unconscious - after being pulled out of the water. He was without a pulse and without breathing and we immediately started performing advanced resuscitation, which included massages and respiration, "He was vigorous and we evacuated him to the hospital when his condition was serious."
Pearl was resuscitated and anesthetized at Wolfson Hospital in Holon but despite doctors' efforts his death was determined over the weekend.
Pearl, 18, from Kfar Saba, was laid to rest today (Sunday) in the Moshav Elishama cemetery in Sharon.
His relatives said that his great love for animals in general and dogs in particular led him to volunteer as a dog and ask to enlist in a sting unit.
Many animal activists today circulated many messages calling for him to attend the funeral and pay his respects: "It is a brave act of a young man who has not twice thought of saving his dog even at the cost of losing his life."
