A8/Holzkirchen: Man (63) drives to the constriction on construction trucks

A 63-year-old drove into a construction vehicle on Saturday at the lane narrowing on the A8 before the Holzkirchen exit instead of changing to another lane.

Holzkirchen – In an accident on the A8 towards Salzburg on Saturday, a 63-year-old from Geesthacht near Hamburg was injured shortly before the Holzkirchen exit.

According to the police, the man drove in his Honda around 1:50 p.m. on the left of the three lanes of the A8, just before it narrows to two lanes due to construction work at the Holzkirchen junction.

At the narrowing about a kilometer before the exit, he did not turn into one of the remaining lanes, but for reasons that have not yet been clarified, he drove onto a truck with a traffic safety trailer belonging to the construction company, which was protecting the construction site from the flow of traffic.

No one was in the truck at the time of the accident.

The 63-year-old suffered minor injuries.

Paramedics took him to the hospital to be checked out.

Both the traffic safety trailer and the Honda that caused the accident were so badly damaged that they were no longer roadworthy and had to be towed away.

The police estimate the total damage at 25,000 euros.

Since the traffic was already backed up at this point at the time and the lane was closed anyway, the approximately one-hour rescue work did not result in any additional traffic obstructions.

In addition to the police, the Otterfing fire brigade and the Holzkirchen motorway maintenance department were on site to provide assistance and secure the accident site.
