Against the background of threats from Hamas leader Ismail Haniyeh, who issued a warning against Israel from the flag march and the ascent to the Temple Mount on Jerusalem Day, MK Itamar Ben Gvir informed the Knesset officer today (Sunday) that he intends to ascend the mountain on Sunday, May 29.
It will be recalled that MK Ben Gvir set up a temporary bureau in the IDF Square about a month ago, after his entry to the Nablus Gate was prevented by Prime Minister Bennett.
According to Ben Gvir: "Threats of the enemy will not deter us from reaching the holiest place for the Jewish people, on the contrary, we will only become stronger and achieve the sovereignty of the State of Israel in Jerusalem."
MK Ben Gvir added: "I hope that on Jerusalem Day Israel will lower Haniya with targeted counterterrorism and raise the Israeli flag to the top of the mast."
Ben-Gvir's remarks follow a speech by Hamas leader Ismail Haniyeh, who called on the Palestinian people to be on alert to defend al-Aqsa.
In a recorded broadcast, he said that Hamas was following the renewed calls in Israel regarding the "invasions" of the mosque and the organization of the flag parade, and warned that the Palestinian people in Jerusalem and the West Bank would not allow this.
