Ben Schulze will succeed Kurt Neumaier as coach of TSV Herrsching

The handball players at TSV Herrsching have a new coach: homegrown Ben Schulze takes over from Kurt Neumaier, who wants to take a break from coaching.

– Saying goodbye was difficult for everyone involved.

"He came to Herrsching as a coach and is leaving as a real friend," says Uli Sigl.

Five years ago, the head of the handball department at the time and current head of sports at TSV Kurt Neumaier steered him to Lake Ammer.

At first he looked after the juniors, after an interim engagement with the reserves of TuS Fürstenfeldbruck he took over Herrsching's first team.

The coach was a stroke of luck for the club, because he formed promising talents like Elias Engelhard into real top performers.

It was already apparent at the turn of the year that Neumaier would end his successful work at TSV.

The pandemic had also drained his nerves and motivation.

Sometimes it was huh, sometimes it was hott, sometimes we trained and played and sometimes we didn't, sometimes incidences had a reference value, and at some point they were just meaningless.

When the Bavarian Handball Association (BHV) put even more pressure on the clubs with a stricter relegation regulation, the trainer seemed to despair of the officials and their specifications.

"It took a toll on him and took it away," Sigl admits.

"I didn't feel like it anymore," Neumaier explains his decision.

Despite all the adversities, he kept his team in fourth place and thus safe in the national league.

As a farewell, TSV presented the self-confessed Löwen fan with an original jersey from his favorite football club.

But not only the farewell gift, but also the joint cooperation will remain in his memory.

"Good time, great club, good environment, it was fun," said Neumaier.

While he doesn't rule out returning to coaching at some point, he has turned down all offers for the coming season in order to recover.

Neumaier's successor is Ben Schulze.

For Sigl there was absolutely no hesitation in helping himself to the reserve: "Why wander into the distance when the good is so close?" the second guard in the district league has consolidated and is well networked again with the first team.

The 32-year-old, who also works for the BHV and the German Handball Federation (DHB), also has the trainer A license.

Sigl also describes the new head coach as a stroke of luck for TSV: "What better could have happened to us?"

Schulze's job is to keep the men in the state league, which won't be easy.

Patrick Herz ended his career for health and private reasons.

"Then there are still one or two question marks," says Sigl.

It is not yet clear which university Julian Taft will go to or where Tizian Maier will work after his studies.

Since the bulk of the team stays together, Schulze has the task of continuing the work of his predecessor.

"It's still about incorporating your own talents," explains Sigl.

Which is not to be expected otherwise, since Schulze comes from his own offspring, where he was involved as a trainer in his own youth work very early on.
