The new Archbishop of Paris, Mgr Laurent Ulrich, takes possession of "his" Notre-Dame Cathedral, this Monday afternoon, May 23.
The building is still under construction, the ceremony will be sober.
Celebration of vespers first, at 4 p.m. in the open air, on the square in front of Notre-Dame, in front of the Virgin of the pillar.
The Archbishop will then enter, almost alone, into the convalescent building, in order to meditate there for a few moments between the scaffolding.
He will thus have taken "possession" of his cathedral, according to the consecrated term of the Catholic ritual, which provides that the bishop sits on his cathedra, the episcopal see which symbolizes his authority in the Church in three respects: government, teaching and jurisdiction.
He will then go to Saint-Sulpice, the largest church in Paris, which has served as a service since the fire for the major ceremonies of the diocese.
A mass will begin at 6:30 p.m., open to all.
The homily, the first of the new pastor of Paris, is eagerly awaited.
Parisian priests are relatively united.
They need a leader close to them.
