After a long Corona break, the longing to celebrate together was obviously great: the marquee of the Oster- and Oberwarngau boys' association was usually full to bursting on the first four of the five days of the festival.

At the climax on May 22nd, 2000 visitors cavorted at the festival area at the chapel field.

Warngau

– Benedikt Holzner, spokesman for the festival committee, has had stressful days and nights – as have many members of the boys’ association, which celebrated its 50th anniversary two years late.

"You could tell that people had been waiting for this for a long time and really enjoyed it," he reports.

The whole village community pitched in.

And in general, a lot fitted together: the weather held up wonderfully.

Festwirt Anian Kurz, his kitchen and his waitresses deserve special praise.

"They were always on the ball."

On the festival day on Sunday (May 22), around 1,500 invited guests marched through the town in a church and festival procession.

The catholic rural youth of Lenggries, who came with 103 people, secured the highest price;

the Ramsau lads' club (near Haag) won the "far prize".

Holzner estimates that 2,000 visitors populated the tent and forecourts in the early afternoon.

No "Loamsiada" for over 50 years

During the sermon before All Saints' Day, Pastor Gottfried Doll referred to the Bavarian expression "Loamsiada".

The Warngau boys didn't want to be such "sluggish bores", as the dialect can be translated here - and founded the boys' association in 1970 to increase the sociability factor of the community.

The tent was already full to the brim at the suckling pig meal when the beer was tapped on the opening day.

Clubs, companies and groups from all over the region had booked tables in advance.

"We were able to sell the tent twice," reports Holzner.

Young and old celebrated together at the beer and wine festival on Friday.

"We danced until the morning," Holzner observed.

Saturday (May 21st) started with a classic car meeting in which around 300 vehicles took part.

In the evening, 400 paying visitors followed the music cabaret of the "Three Men Only with Guitars".

The advance sale got off to a slow start, reports Holzner.

"But something really happened at the box office."

The great effort with a five-day program paid off.

"We wanted to have something for every taste," says Holzner, "and the high fixed costs of a tent have to be paid for." On Monday, May 23, the agricultural machinery exhibition in the afternoon and a plate of meat in the evening are still on the agenda.

The lads want to hold the next festival as early as August, then several sizes smaller: there will be another "mountain fire" on the Schlossbergl.
