Conflict between Israel and European Parliament President Roberta Metzula ahead of a visit to the country that began today (Sunday):

The Foreign Ministry announced today that it will not approve the entry into the country of MEP Manu Pineda, who tried to join a shady delegation.

In an official letter sent from the ministry to the union and a copy of which was received by "Israel Today", the Foreign Ministry says that Pineda's name did not appear in the original list of members of the delegation who were supposed to arrive in Israel.

However, it seems that the essential reason is Pineda's very critical positions against Israel on the Palestinian issue.

Even before she arrived in Israel, Metzula expressed regret at preventing the Member of Parliament from entering and said that she would raise the issue at her meetings in Israel.

"Respect for members of parliament and the European Parliament is essential for good relations," wrote Motzla, who arrived in Israel today, on her Twitter account.

Pineda serves as chair of the European Parliament's Committee on Liaison with the Palestinian Authority.

The European Union and Israel hope that the visit of the President of Parliament, for the first time in eight years, will lead to an improvement in relations.

The European Union rejects Israel's claim that Pineda's visit did not match in advance, saying that Jerusalem was well aware of his arrival.

The union also emphasizes that this is a separate visit from that of Mozzela and that Pineda should visit only the Palestinian Authority, which coincides with a time almost equal to that of a visit to the country of the President of Parliament.
