Tens of thousands demonstrated in Istanbul to protest the repressive policies pursued by the authorities of the regime of Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan against their opponents.
According to the Turkish newspaper, Zaman, the demonstration was organized by the Turkish opposition to protest the conviction and sentencing of the CHP official in the city, Canan Kaftancioglu, to prison on charges of insulting Erdogan and allegations of her association with terrorist organizations.
A court of Erdogan's regime had earlier sentenced Kaftancioglu to about five years in prison on politicized charges and pretexts, against the backdrop of her opposition to the policies of the Turkish regime and the Justice and Development Party government.
