After weeks of arguments between the coalition and the opposition over the passage of the "Dimensions for Studies" law, a compromise is emerging between the parties that will allow the passage of the law.
MK Ophir Sofer (Religious Zionism) is in talks with the coalition to advance his compromise proposal to the law and there are already some ministers who have admitted that it is quite fair.
According to the proposal of the Knesset member, which was sent to the Minister of Defense in a letter in order to forward it as soon as possible, incentives for academic excellence must be included in the program.
In the new bill, a fighter who desires academic study and meets the criteria will pay one-third of the degree as proposed in the current law.
However, if he successfully completes his undergraduate studies - the amount of money that the fighter has already paid from the deposit fee will be returned to the deposit account and used for other purposes, such as an apartment, starting a business or a wedding.

The coalition's main argument is that when fighters have to fund part of the degree through their deposit money they will take their studies and degree eligibility more seriously.
The proposal of the member of Religious Zionism is intended to balance this need with the desire to grant the fighters a full scholarship.
According to him, the gap between his proposal and the coalition's proposal amounts to only NIS 50 million.
Sofer's proposal is intended to produce a compromise between the government and its opponents after clashes between them over the law in recent weeks.
Following the tension between the parties, the Likud party announced that it intends to oppose this bill of the government as well as the other proposals that it will raise.
It is not clear at this time what your position is regarding the current proposal.
Earlier this morning, former chief of staff Gabi Ashkenazi tweeted on his Twitter account that disputes should be put aside when it comes to soldiers:
Good week,
although I am not currently a partner in political action, I feel a partner in the state, Israeli society and the IDF.
It is inconceivable that we will be united around their memory and heritage of heroism on Memorial Day and that we will not be united around their esteem, education and future.
IDF fighters above and beyond any political debate.
Hope common sense prevails.
