Justice of the Peace in an unusual decision: Jews are allowed to recite "Shema Yisrael" on the Temple Mount Israel today

2022-05-22T19:16:49.751Z

The decision canceled the removal from the Old City for 15 days of three Jewish boys who read the prayer and bowed on the Temple Mount • The police estimate that the prosecutor's office will appeal the decision, for fear of the consequences

Jerusalem Magistrate's Court Judge Zion Sahrai ruled yesterday in an extraordinary decision that Jews may read "Shema Yisrael" on the Temple Mount and even bow down there.

In doing so, he overturned the police decision to keep three Jewish boys away from the Old City for 15 days because they shouted "Hear Israel" and bowed down on the Temple Mount.

He stated that in the circumstances in which things took place, there was no "disturbance" and no fear arose that "peace" or "public peace" would be violated.

It should be noted that in practice, and under the supervision of the police, prayers have been held in the minyan on the Temple Mount in which, among other things, the "Shma Yisrael" prayer has been said for about five years.

These are silent and non-demonstrative prayers that take place in the east of the mountain, without external markers such as a tallit, tefillin or sidur.

On the other hand, the police do not allow the act of bowing on the Temple Mount, and the judge's ruling may lead many to bow in the mountain area.

The decision to allow the violation of the status quo in the Al-Aqsa compound is not only wrong, but also irresponsible and dangerous.

One fool is enough to burn an entire forest and to stop the fire, the prosecutor and the prosecutor's office must appeal the decision and ask for its postponement.

The police were surprised by the ruling and expressed concern about the consequences it will have on days when the conflict on the Temple Mount is at its peak.

Police estimate that the prosecution will appeal the judge's decision, as it did last October against the ruling of Justice of the Peace Bilha Yahalom, who then ordered the return of a Jewish worshiper who was expelled from there and wrote: "The state does not disagree the police".

The state appealed the peace decision at the time and Jerusalem District Court Judge Aryeh Romanov accepted the appeal and ruled, among other things, that according to High Court rulings, the judiciary should not interfere in such a sensitive matter as the issue of Jewish prayers on the Temple Mount. The Mughrabi leading to the Temple Mount area, which details the essence of the rules of the visit: "Religious / ritual activity with visible external signs is prohibited."

Meretz Regional Cooperation Minister Issawi Farage tweeted following the decision: "The decision to allow a breach of the status quo in the Al-Aqsa compound is not only wrong, but also irresponsible and dangerous. One fool is enough to burn an entire forest and stop the fire, on the target. "Q and the State Attorney's Office to appeal the decision and request that its implementation be postponed.

"Before we find ourselves in a whirlpool of violence as a result of the magnanimity of one justice of the peace."
